About The Program
The purpose of the Sharing Cupboards is to provide a supply of nutritious food and/or household items at school for students to take home. In the spirit of ‘sharing’ and giving back to their school community, students that are able are encouraged to donate items to add to the cupboards.
We know that at-risk students often require additional nutrition at home, and that proper nutrition is essential to learning. The Sharing Cupboards will provide equity to students that may be facing food insecurity at home and will allow personal selection to accommodate dietary restrictions. Students select their food, rather than receive a basket or hamper of preselected food items, or a grocery card. This is an important point, as selection of food items allows for a sense of self-pride.
