For the ninth time people parking in downtown Belleville, Trenton or Picton will have a chance to “feed the meter” to help hungry children get healthy meals.
The annual Feed the Meter campaign begins Friday and runs through December during which time any money put in parking metres will be turned over to the Hastings Prince Edward Food for Learning program.
The three municipalities have all agreed to allow people to park for free in their downtowns but encourage them to “feed the meter” to help children in local schools get health meals and snacks.
For the kickoff event Friday morning at the Greek Hall in Belleville, Mayors Taso Christopher, Jim Harrison and Robert Quaiff were all on hand to display a cheque showing how much the program has raised in eight years.
